April 21st. A new season to celebrate, though Spring comes earlier in Houston.
I’ve found myself challenged to create beauty and not just to buy it. To eat food prepared with care, bought from people who’ve overseen seed to plant.
There are some extraordinary farmers markets here in Texas, and one exemplary and good-natured guinea pig who tells me that the improvisations I make in the kitchen are worth eating.
This little house we’ve just moved into (April 1st!) is an oyster. Today, I am a grainy, petulant piece of sand, and not very good at caring for this little plot. Especially disappointing is the dying strawberry plant I mistakenly potted just below the eve of our roof, where water falls and digs rivulets every time it rains.
Here, I’ll daily post the pictures and anecdotes of my long road to becoming a pearl in the kitchen and throughout the house. If I can do it, anyone can.
